They say that all good things must come to an end so I got the chance to ask some questions to the CXBL Central MXL team Waterloo Wildcards as it seem that this is the final year for the franchise in the CXBL league. We wish all the best to the players in the 2010 season where ever they end up playing.
First off what is your name and who do you play for?
My name is Brett Robinson and I am currently playing for Waterloo Wilcards.
How is the season going for your team right now?
This season isn’t going exactly as we had planned. We lost a 1 point game to Elmira which kind of got the team down and then we played terribly against Oshawa Fury and lost that game as well. We are now hoping to win both of our games at event 5 to give us a winning record of 4-3-0
Event five is around the corner, who if anyone do you feel is the major threat in your division?
Obviously Kitchener Recon is the only threat in the division to every team. No matter who they play they are are better organized, more prepared and too skilled to make a single mistake against.
What have you guys been doing to get prepared for this event? Anything out of the ordinary?
No we haven’t done anything out of the ordinary to prepare for this event. It was hard to practice with only 2 weeks off in between event 4 and event 5, but we got our regular practice in on the event 5 layout at Flag Raiders Paintball the weekend before event 5.
What about the CXBL do you guys like the most? The least? How does the CXBL compare to the AXBL?
We love how organized and prepared the CXBL is. Everything always runs on time, they always have great referees and they always put on a great event. We don’t like that in the MXL and RXL divisions that only 1 team wins anything and that there is no playoff or finals system in place. In 2008 Nottawasaga went undefeated and it looks like Kitchener will this season, meaning that we dump all this money into the league showing up to all the events and if you lose a single game even if it is by 1 point the whole season can be thrown out the window in a matter of minutes. I personally have not been to any AXBL events but some members of my team have and they say that in the MXL division the competition isn’t nearly as good as it is up here in Canada but that there are some excelent AXBL teams.
Does your team compete in any other leagues currently or plan to participate in any of the major US league closing events such as PSP World Cup or USPL Vegas?
In the winter we play the Flag Raiders Paintball Raiders Cup series for fun and to keep up with the competition in the winter. However in the summer months with 5 CXBL events and practices almost every weekend we just do not have time to play anything except for CXBL. As for attending any major events this season such as world cup it doesn’t look too likely since 90% of our team is either in college or university and most of us just cant take the time out of school to attend these events even though we would like to.
What sponsors does your team have for this season?
Waterloo Wildcards does not now, nor have we ever had any sponsorships everything over the last 3 seasons has come right out of the pockets of our players.
We all know that the end of the 2009 is close, but where do you see your team going in 2010 and beyond that?
Well I’m sad to say that after 3 years of playing on Waterloo the team will be sold and will no longer be Waterloo Wildcards next season. I don’t mean to feed any rumors but it looks like the team will be heading to SOF paintball in Hamilton next year and we are hoping that a few of our current players will be heading there with it.
Something you love? Something you hate? Something that is a stereotype to Canadian paintball?
I love that It snowed during one of the CXBL western events. I hate that we have to play indoors in the winter. Im just not too sure about any Canadian paintball stereotypes.
