Paintball goggles. There are many companies that offer paintball goggles, some better than others, but when purchasing a goggle system, the most important factor to a decision will be comfort. Recommended for goggles are always a thermal lens, meaning that there are two panes of plastic lens that are held together by an outer layer of foam. Most goggle systems that cost above $50 will come with a thermal lens standard. After the decision of a thermal system, usually the next choice of a consumer will be looks. If the buyer though is new to the sport, protection coverage is the next choice. What covers most of the face, and the case in this review article, is the protection of the top part of the head. JT USA has released a couple full head coverage systems, but their most elite system for full head coverage is the JT Flex 8.
The JT Flex 8 came out a few years ago and although is not as successful as the renowned JT Proflex’s, the Flex 8’s are still in production and doing okay. What the Flex 8 offers over the Proflex system is a hard plastic piece that surrounds the whole face, instead of soft rubber. Also unique prints can be found on the Flex 8’s, especially unique camouflage designs, which is very popular among the rec ball and woodsball players.
The Flex 8 Full Head Coverage system has the standard JT Spectra goggle frame and lens, offering a wide field of vision, and great peripheral views. This frame is the same one used in the Proflex. The shape of the mask is very similar to the Proflex but the ear and facemask is one piece and made of a hard plastic. Ventilation holes are smartly placed where it counts so there is always a good amount of ventilation. The head coverage piece covers the forehead, top head, and back of the head allowing maximum protection without hindering any movement. The head piece is removable so the player can still use the mask and not look like a complete bobblehead.
The Flex 8 full head coverage system allows the user to take advantage of the popular JT mask market. Goggle frames, lenses, and straps are available as aftermarket and allows for full customization. The full head coverage looks awkward, especially on younger kids, but the mask does the job of fully protecting the user’s head. Priced at only a few dollars above the Flex 8 and Proflex system, the buyer can start out protecting his melon, and then later decide to have a cool looking mask and storing away that awkward top shell.
